Look Book: The Oscars 2014

The Oscars 2014 have come and gone, and we all had the chance to witness fashion icons walking the red carpet wearing new trends and designs. Every year, the Academy Awards get bolder and brighter and I must say, they really set the record this year. "They" being, the actors and actresses who attended the event. It was absolutely exciting to see how glamorously everyone was dressed and the whole event just felt so magical, mostly due to the happy-go-lucky Ellen Degeneres who carried off her role as the host of the night very well by providing her signature comedic relief.

Now, let’s get to the real reason why we watch the Oscars every year, the fashion! I felt that this year was different from previous years because everyone was dressed so stylishly! However, there is a best dressed star every year and the title for this year definitely goes to Jennifer Lawrence. She looked wonderfully statuesque in an elegant cherry red gown made by Dior, of which she is currently an ambassador of. Her swept back hair and minimalistic accessories complimented her outfit, giving her an Old Hollywood look.

Next on the best dressed list would have to be Lupita Nyong’O, who won an Oscar for her critically-acclaimed movie 12 Years A Slave. She wore a Tiffany blue Prada gown that flowed like a waterfall to her feet. The actress had told a red carpet host that the particular shade of blue reminded her of Nairobi, where she was raised, therefore the colour of the dress represented her family heritage. She coupled the dress with minimal accessories and makeup which enhanced the entire look for its sheer simplicity.

And last but not least, the wonderful Sandra Bullock also deserved to be one of the best dressed for her stunning navy Alexander McQueen gown that took our breath away. With her hair sideswept into soft curls, she pulled off the look with total sophistication.

Now, let’s give some credit to the men as well, the best dressed actor for Oscars 2014 has to be Jared Leto. He pulled off a white tux and red bow tie handsomely, not to mention he looks like he had just stepped out of a salon. Why can’t our hair look like that?

Next would have to be Benedict Cumberbatch and Zac Efron, both wearing the classic black and white tux but they pull if off so effortlessly.

We loved each and every outfit worn this year to the red carpet and it was hard to put together this list, but here it is. Here’s to the Oscars being even more bold and beautiful next year!
