Innovation At Its Best

On Thursday, 14th March 2013, CAL Biology and Chemistry students visited 3M’s customer innovation center in Shah Alam, Malaysia.
This trip opened our eyes to many innovations, from electronics stuffs to industrial machines, and yes, even stationeries.

The labs at 3M (which stands for Minnesota Mining Manufacturing) were magical places. In here, we saw how 3M products were applied to luminometers, a device used to check the percentage of micro-organisms on food.

In the end, we learned more than expected. We realize how much effort was required to produce a single product.

Interesting facts:
3M was founded by William L. McKnight whose principle was: innovation comes from initiative efforts made by its workers, and, problems create opportunities.

Post-It’s (by 3M) was invented thanks to an accident of faulty adhesives.
