Double Feature: Transformers One and Two!
Megan Fox? Running in slow motion? On a poster in front of the first floor escalator? Yes, you heard me right. The sole purpose of this enticing image was to promote the Film Club’s double feature viewing of the action packed Transformers series.
Posters were put up all over campus and the usual salesman charm applied to those walking by the ticket stall. The movie itself has probably been seen by many already but a good refresh or even first time viewing for some was provided through this event.
Priced at a reasonable RM5 for both movies, the total sold was 30 tickets; however, there was extra entrepreneurial enterprise with the selling of movie treats. Refreshments such as popcorn, snacks and soft drinks were sold at the pre-movie viewing from 12 30 till 1 outside the Beta Theatre.
The first Transformers movie officially started at 1 and ended by 3, followed by the second. The screening of Transformers 2 ended at 6. Overall, the event was lively and there was a warm friendly feeling because refreshments were sold inside the theatre, unlike real movie screenings. Another new feature one doesn’t get at a movie theatre is the permission to talk and laugh as one pleases, but at this event, people could talk during the movie and this made a tremendous difference to the screenings.
When asked about where the proceeds go, Film Club president, Azzim Emir stated that the funds will go to future club endeavours such as movie premier outings, film event visits and future screenings. Most importantly, these funds will be used to purchase the original Transformers One and Two DVDs as one of the Film Club’s causes is anti-piracy and all who attended have contributed to this worthy cause.
This event is one of many which the club has organized. Other viewings include “This is It!” and “Up”. The president states that sometimes the events are not just about the movie but about the social experience. One of the major aims of the Film Club is to create a friendly place where many different film lovers and friends can gather together, chat and watch a movie in a friendly place, and so far, it’s been successful.
