Audrey Hepburn: Fashion Icon
“Audrey Hepburn” is a name synonymous with fashion. After her debut in the film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” it was undeniable that Audrey Hepburn exuded beauty and grace.
She had a unique sense of style that seemed to captivate and allure audiences on and off the screen. She had an immense influence on fashion, encouraging people to embrace their flaws and let their inner beauty shine through. Her style was simple yet elegant and her endearing boyishness and youthful charm only seemed to make the clothes she wore all the more extraordinary.
Even though Audrey Hepburn had her own insecurities about her appearance and admitted she preferred to dress casually and comfortably rather than ‘fashionably’, it was her refreshing and healthy outlook on fashion that drew the attention of many renowned designers such as Hubert de Givenchy. Their relationship blossomed after Audrey Hepburn wore a few of his designs in the film “Sabrina” causing the whole world to fall in love her. Givenchy said Hepburn “knew exactly what she wanted. She knew perfectly her visage and her body, their fine points and their faults”
Audrey Hepburn is considered one of the major pioneers of comfort and simplicity in fashion; she had a revolutionary impact on fashion with her style still influencing designers today. It is for this reason her style has remained popular for so long. Some of her significant contributions include the ‘little black dress’ (a must have dress that is simple yet classy and can be worn for any occasion with limited accessories needed!), oversized sunglasses, and ballet flats (a perfect alternative for those who are insecure about their height yet want to feel feminine). Additionally she also popularized Capri pants and the pearl necklace.
Unlike most fashion icons, Audrey Hepburn stayed true to herself, never influenced by public opinion or swayed to exploit her sexuality. Her beauty was exuded through her charisma, dignity and kindness. It was her strong sense of style, confidence, modesty, awareness of herself and her insecurities that made her human but also allowed her to be the perfect fashion icon, presenting to the world the utmost important factor of being fashionable: embracing yourself.
