2010 Formula One German Grand Prix Preview

By the time you read this, it’s most likely that the race has already finished but bear with me as we take a look at the 2010 German Grand Prix at Hockenheim. The Hockenheimring was originally built in 1939 by Mercedes Benz as a high-speed test track. Once famous for the section of the track which cut through the forest before entering a stadium section, the track now has a modern set-up to fulfill safety regulations.

Going into the race, both the Red Bull's and the McLaren's have a strong chance as they have had all season. Interesting fact, bar the first race in Bahrain, every race has been won by either a Red Bull or McLaren. Not forgetting the fact that this is Sebastian Vettels home race, there is a huge chance that he may be able to pick up some points to put him back into competition for the championship. Unfortunately for him though, he has at least 5 past winners of this grand prix starting alongside, including Mark Webber, Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher who is racing here for the first time since his comeback.

Moving down the grid, Nico Rosberg has continued to increase Mercedes GP's fortunes with his third place at the last race but will have the likes of Rubens Barrichello and Kamui Kobayashi definitely snapping at his heels bar any mishaps. Robert Kubica in his Renault has also surprised many with his results considering his under-powered car. It just shows the raw talent of this guy and it would do them good if one of the bigger teams lured him in with a decent contract.

Now to the back-markers, among the new teams, Lotus F1 generally has been the most consistent in finishing their races. Unfortunately, the same can't be said of the other two as Virgin has had to modify their car mid-season to add a larger fuel-tank and Hispania Racing has annouced that Karun Chandok has been dropped in favour of Japanese driver, Sakon Yamamoto .

In conclusion, the weekend will shape up to be an exciting one with interesting challenges happening up and down the grid.
