CLIOD - IB Intake
The day started off with 18 eager students rushing to register to secure a spot in the Alpha Theatre. There were even familiar faces in the crowd – students who attended the previous CLIODs (SAM & A Levels) came back to experience CLIOD once more.
Mr. Jonathan welcomed the potential IB students by showing them our state-of-the-art campus, which got the students so enthusiastic about the programme we had in store for them. Shortly after, the current IB students presented a very informative slide show showcasing life as an IB student from the perspective of an actual IB student. Student Council member and IB student Ashvin Avalani closed the slide show by explaining his achievements and involvement in the college.
Up next was the ice breaking session organized by our very own Student Council. Jian Wei, Student Council President, briefly introduced the Council with an image filled slide show, mentioning large-scale events such as the recently held Taylor’s Got Talent and the Chinese New Year event held in February. The Student Council had a little game planned for the students to get them hyped up early in the morning – the Search game. Students had to find someone in the Alpha Theatre who matched the 20 criteria given to them. As soon as the games begun, everyone rushed to Aisha, Vice President of Student Council, to match the obvious criteria they had on their list – curly hair. The ice breaking session was a huge hit with 6 winners and the remaining students were forced to perform the chicken dance on stage led by President Jian Wei and Vice Presidents Aisha and Ervin.
2 groups were formed for the briefing on classes that an IB student would have to attend such as Theory of Knowledge, English A1, French, etc. Although this took about 2 hours and 40 minutes, you could tell by their faces that none of them were the slightest bit bored and that they were paying attention throughout the whole session. When lunchtime came, the groups were broken down further into 4 groups. Each group was assigned 1 Student Council member and 1 IB student who took the CLIOD students out for lunch to hot spots such as Kanteen, Buzz Bistro, Nagomi and Station Kopitiam. This gave them a chance to bond with the current IB students. Needless to say, everyone got along with each other extremely well and got back just in time to continue the session with Ms. Hedwig the CAS coordinator.
After the students were well informed about IBDP, it was time to put their knowledge to the test with the long awaited session – the Explorace, organized by the Student Council. The purpose of the Explorace is to allow potential TCSH students to explore our campus. Students were given a riddle to solve which would lead them to a location on campus. After finding the location, students had to look out for the respective student council member situated at all the locations. Student Council members then asked each group a different question about IBDP such as “How many hours are you expected to complete for your CAS?”
To our surprise, all groups were able to identify every location and correctly answer all the questions thrown at them. The first 3 teams that got back with all locations accurately identified won a prize. Student Council members held the prize giving session and invited Mr. Frank Meagher, Associate Director, to give out the prizes for the ice breaking session and Ms. Dachaini Karuppiah, Student Event Advisor, to give out the prizes for the Explorace.
The CLIOD event was without a doubt a major success. Some students were so excited that they were even thinking of enrolling the following day. Two thumbs up to the staff who organized the whole event, Student Ambassadors who volunteered to help out and the Student Council.
