A New Year, A New Look: A New Editorial Board
If the heading didn’t already give it away, on the 30th of April a new executive committee for the Editorial Board was appointed. Fourteen members from the previous Editorial Board stepped down; four were appointed new positions while the remaining ten bid a final goodbye to focus on their upcoming exams and after which head off to university.
Mr. Ananda gave a fitting speech for the occasion. He bid the outgoing committee farewell by reminding them of their beginnings and how far they as a committee had progressed, and informed the new committee that they had big shoes to fill. Mr. Ananda ended his speech by saying, “all of them have done a great job and have made this club very successful. I wish them all success.”
Former Editor, Adrian Ho, took to the podium after Mr. Ananda and thanked him for his support. This was followed by a rather comical but heartfelt thank you to Mr.Rahul for putting his trust in him. Then without further ado, the new committee was revealed to the rest of the Editorial Board, who had been waiting in anticipation.
The new secretary for this year’s Editorial Board is Sugeeta Sukumar. Hew Kah Mun and Lim Yan Yun, take over from Koh Youlin and Sarah Tan as Head of Events. The new Head of Photography is Cheah Yan Leng, taking the place of the dynamic duo Yeap Chung Wye and Zhen-Howe Hong. The Head of Graphics (Print Design), a position previously held by Arthur Chia, is now in the capable hands of Imran Zubir and Deborah. The Head of Sponsorship will remain status quo. Wong Leong Khim, previously from Cempaka Damansara, has received some awards for graphic design so it is fortunate to have him as the Head of Graphics (Web Design). Koh Youlin is the new yearbook editor. Low Te Jinn, is now the editor of the Editorial Board, and Youlin is the co-editor along with Dorothy Lim. Congratulations to the new committee.
Before officially stepping down as editor, Adrian informed the room that, “Jinn has done a great job and that’s why he is the new editor,” at which point Adrian and Jinn shook hands and Jinn officially become the new editor. Jinn gushed that he felt honoured and promised to raise the standard of The Beacon Online and the yearbook, and that the new committee is definitely capable of that based on the fact that there is a lot of great talent in this year’s executive committee.
It was only appropriate that Mr. Rahul offer a few words of wisdom to the new committee, seeing as he was one of the key people who helped lay the ground work for what is now the Editorial Board. He asserted that he had full faith in the new committee and that they should be aware that as it turns out, our sister campus has asked him for help in an effort to outdo The Beacon Online. He hoped that this will serve as an incentive for us to be better and work harder. His parting words were, “to an awesome 2010 and we look forward to awesome things from the Editorial Board.”
