TCSH Prom 2011 - The Vintage Ball

What was on everyone’s mind during last year’s November? Judging by the looks of excitement on the faces of the girls, the beads of sweat developing on the foreheads of the boys, and the overriding aura of unbridled happiness on the faces of each and every Taylor’s Hartamas student; The end of examination season. To some, it was a beginning of a new phase of stress and idle desperation, to others a promise of happiness and relaxation. Whether happiness or sadness lay ahead, it didn’t really matter – Exam season was over, and if only for one brief moment, all of TCSH wanted to party – TCSH Prom 2011; Vintage Ball fulfilled that desire in full measure, and even paid interest.

The event took place at Crowne Plaza Mutiara hotel in Kuala Lumpur on the 25th of November. True enough to the slogan, the event brought everyone back to the ‘lives and glamour of Marilyn Monroe and Judy Garland’, the key difference being that this wasn’t their moment – It was ours. The halls of Crowne Plaza Mutiara were decked out with teenagers dressed in hats, business suits, dresses, and people with cool hair. It was a celebration of moments past, yet a brief snapshot and a short lasting moment of the now to which we held a sovereign claim. The light shows, the performances by Hera Keziah binti Iskandar Zakariah Melvin, Ian Quah, Shayne Foo, and Dimitri Rosli from the IB and SAM cohorts, the flashy, ‘magically comedic’ performance of Ross Stephenson, the melodious performance by Lim Kee En and Ong Suan Yean alike brought our hearts alive with laughter and pleasure alike, and the organization of the committee showcased the obvious commitment that the committee members dedicated into the event.

At the end of the day, awards were given. Kudos to our prom King, Mr. Vimal Velayudham, and our prom queen, Ms. Sara Amelia Bernard! After we had our happy conversations, and celebrated the academic and personal achievements alike of our cohort of future world leaders... The dance floor opened. A show-stopping performance of “Pumped up Kicks” by “Foster the People”, conducted by Traumer, brought hordes to the dance floor, despite their initial reservations.

As a participant in the aforementioned prom, this writer enjoyed it very much – Credits go to each and every one of you who worked toward making this event a success, each and every drop of blood, sweat, and tears that you shed in making this event become a reality. For some of us, this event is a goodbye that says: this is what we did, this is what we said, and this is what we stood for – To me, this was a watershed moment that will always remind me that I was once a part of Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas.
