MYC

When the society is growing towards visual oriented marketing business culture, it has been a war among business entities to attract consumers with colors, perceived performance and sex appeals just to grasp consumers’ attention to convince the consumers to purchase the product. In addition, vulgar wordings that are perceived to be ‘cool’ are used more often for attention seeking.

To me, it is alright to seek attention when one’s product is to be marketed with the purpose of increasing awareness and knowledge of the consumers to choose the products that fit according to their respective demands. However, based on the picture shown above, it is fair to say that the youngsters (consumers) nowadays are seeking to be sweet but at the same time to have a kick *ss (as if people cannot relate ‘*ss’ to the actual word itself) attitude, or, putting it in another manner, the producers are trying to teach the youngsters to dress, speak, and behave as above.

It will not surprise me if I saw the pictures as such in magazines like Vogue or Elle Girl which are very fashion oriented reading materials (by the way, I personally don’t really like the growth of current fashion trend, which I may write in my future article). However, MYC magazine is a Malaysian college and university based reading materials and we now see how the producers are trying to shape the minds of the college students nowadays.

Well, you might comment that I’m a conservative and a person living in the past. Well, ask yourself whether it is right to go all the way just to increase sales and numbers regardless of the appropriate method used in marketing industry. Youngsters who are studying especially in colleges are watching and learning how we do things in the real world and they’ll adopt the model we created. And well, you may say again, “Everybody’s doing it, if we don’t we’ll lose out”. It’s easy to say that when we’re taking advantage of the lives of other people’s children, if this happened to your children (e.g. to be models that portray sex appeals), it is unfair if your response is “hey, that’s my child, it’s different, they’re going to get a decent job in the future.”

Would you teach your children by saying “my dear, I want you to kick my *ss in the future” or “my dear, when the world comes to an end, it is up to violence to solve problems”? Well, if your answer is yes then you can ignore the article and live your life. But if you want what I want, where our children grow up to be decent and useful citizens in the society, I humbly ask you to speak and profess what is decent and useful through action. Before we go on to speak and do what is perceived to be ‘cool’, first we have to think whether the thing we do is RIGHT.

By the way, as the magazine cover said “if the world you know ends tomorrow”…My reply is “I’m sure I’ll not rely and put my trust on the 4 girls shown”.
