Press Statement
25th January 2015

It is our greatest pleasure to announce that we have raised a total of RM26,300 through our fundraising dinner "Colours of Africa: Beyond Horizons 2015". All proceeds will go to aid the work of Generation of Leaders Discovered (GOLD) in Sub-Saharan Africa. We believe in GOLD's vision and we are thankful that you believe in us.

A big thank you to those who supported us throughsponsorship, publicity and volunteering. We would like to extend our gratitude to Taylor's College Sri Hartamas, Rotary Club of Selayang, Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur Sentul, Life Insurance, Ban Chuan Coffee Sdn Bhd, BRATs from The Star, and The Beacon from TCSH Editorial Board for promoting and contributing to a cause that united the youths of Malaysia and Sub-Saharan Africa.

It was truly amazing to see different people and organisations in our community working together to make this event possible. We are grateful for everyone who played a part in making this a success, namely our advisors, volunteer crew, performers, and emcees. We witnessed the enthusiasm and effort of a passionate team that was brought together by a noble cause. Thank you to our team for inspiring us with your responsibility and dedication.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who came to support "Colours of Africa: Beyond Horizons Fundraising Dinner 2015". "In every end, there is a new beginning." Although this might be the end of our fundraising event, but this is also a beginning of a more proactive voice in Malaysia calling for youth volunteerism and a beginning of endless possibilities for disadvantaged youths in Sub-Saharan Africa who deserve a chance to become future leaders of their generation.

Sincerely,
Friends of GOLD, Malaysia
Leo and Rotaract Club of Taylor's College Sri Hartamas

The title is rather self-explanatory but we must nonetheless address one fact, it is the time of the year again. That's right.
We see the spark in your eyes, young one. Ignite it and be amazed at our mutual goal below.

http://www.thebeacon-online.blogspot.com/p/apply.html

You can be part of our troop, armed with pens, cameras and keyboards as you engage in glorious war on the battlefields of journalism.
Lord Kitchener above shall draw out the patriot muse in you, so click on him to enlist today!
While you linger in some frozen nook and cranny of the gargantuan refrigerator known as "Taylor's College Sri Hartamas", the slab of chilled meat that you are begins to ponder about the counterpart of this notorious emulation of the Ice Age, a warm sanctuary and the wide blue yonder.

That's right, once in a while you stare out of the window with bleak eyes, contemplating how "food" life might have felt, if perhaps, you had leaped into the arms of the older brother instead.

But let us put a halt to that misery of yours, for in conjunction with the Editorial Board, a platform of gossip and happenings served on an exquisite platter named "The Student's Voice" shall be served for your refined "dining" of the latest information from the Taylor's College Subang Jaya campus.
The bimonthly newsletter entails the works of publication of students from the alternate campus, which launches a new dimension for absorbing thoughts and views "taylored" to satiate the appetites of all gourmets entranced by the connoisseur that is Taylor's.

To prevent oneself from going "stale", it is time to reinvigorate the mind by picking up your own copy of "The Student's Voice", the ultimate mental supplement at the ECA Office, 2nd Floor for only RM2.00 per "dish"!

Description of Artwork:

This is a fan art of “Divergent”, the book/movie. The setting is in post-war Chicago. The ancestors determined that it was the fault of human personality that caused the war. Those who blamed aggression formed Amity, those who blamed ignorance formed Erudite, those who blamed duplicity formed Candor, those who blamed selfishness made Abnegation and those who blamed cowardice were the Dauntless.

Code 4:

Description of Artwork:

I’ve always found the idea of death comforting. The thought that my life could end at any moment frees me to fully appreciate the beauty and art and horror of everything this world has to offer. I channel my power, strength and supremacy with the horns that I hold up high. Behind the mask that people call a face, illusions galore. Look into my eyes, as the eye looks beyond this world and into the next and sees the reflection of man himself.

Description of Artwork:

”You must give up the life you planned in order to have the life that is waiting for you” – Joseph Cambell.

She wants to hide into the forest to seek tranquility but she couldn’t because she knows she has her responsibilities and burdens. And now, she has the forest in her mind.

Code 6:

Description of Artwork:

Doubt and melancholy engulfed me as soon as I began, and so I had to stop before I became even more dysphonic than I already was.

But like whatever man, it isn’t as though it was never possible for me to care any lesser than I do now.

Code 7:

Description of Artwork:

At first glance, this is a simple watercolour of a girl lying in the grass. But in today’s world, no girl would sit so serenely amidst nature, so that tells us that she is waiting for something, or someone. I love drawing people who are longing, or waiting for something, but it is also terribly sad, as maybe what she is waiting for will never come.

Code 9:

Description of Artwork:

This is a half painted artwork. First, I drew it using poster, then I used an iPad app to edit it further. And for the first time, I like my signature. A tree, a moon and some patch of grass. It's about the feels....

Code 10:

Description of Artwork:

Yesterday, I had joined the Biology trip to Elephant Sanctuary which was held by the SAM CCA. I saw a scene which was the two elephants twisting their trunks together, so lovely and warm. One boy one girl not only could represent couple love, it can be sibling love or even bestie love.

Description of Artwork:

Waiting is challenging

Code 14:

Description of Artwork:

My artwork depicts mankind misusing the natural resources from mother earth. The earth is being killed slowly by the development and inventions of mankind. This drawing is to raise awareness and to save the earth from being destroyed.

Code 15:

Description of Artwork:

My tribute to Greek Mythology, in particular the Goddess Artemis. She is a virgin goddess, therefore I feel that she personifies purity. She is also the goddess of the moon and the hunt. I have chosen to depict her as a young woman accompanied by her sacred animal, the stag.

Description of Artwork:

The Butterfly:
The light of my life;
The closest thing that touches my heart;
The symbol of my soulmate who is now far far away from me;
who, like a spark, ignites my dark cold heart, bringing me warmth and light to carry on

Code 17:

Description of Artwork:

I was bored and this came out of my mind. A sea view, I guess? It's art, stop asking so much >_<

Code 18:

It's beautiful? Nah, it's Art, anything's art. Mine just being lucky. ^_^

Code 20:

Description of Artwork:

Random and abstract roses. Simple but meaningful.

Code 21:

Description of Artwork:

Man’s best friend. Watching, protecting and saving some while only wanting to please and be loved back. They are strong. My artwork shows their strength within which is calm, kind and beautiful. I drew my own visualization of my own pet dog which has already ‘passed on’ but still stays with me in my heart.

Code 22:

Description of Artwork:

Mental disease, as well as the sufferers, have always intrigued me. I’ve always wanted to know what goes through the head of a Schizophrenia sufferer. What I’ve portrayed in this charcoal sketch is how WE see a Schizophrenia Sufferer. We do not see the demons inside their visions, but all we see is the violent, alarming changes of mood, and the way they are terrified of things we cannot see.

Code 23:

Description of Artwork:

Flowers in Spring~

Code 24:

Description of Artwork:

One day, a wolf snuck into a group of friendly rabbits. As they slept, the wolf appeared in it’s natural form. Each day, the wolf killed and ate the rabbits. The rabbits, not knowing which was the wolf, arranged a meeting to decide who was the wolf and killed it. If they choose correctly, the rabbits win. If not, all of them would be killed and eaten. This is a story of trust and deceit.
Fan art of the manga ”Rabbit Doubt”.

Code 25:

Description of Artwork:

Everyone hides behind a mask. It takes a lot to truly be yourself. My painting is about reaching out to those who feel this way. Be brave and put your mask aside. Be true to who you are. Sometimes you have to care less about what others think and do what's right for yourself. But in the process, don't leave your traditions/ roots/ upbringing because it is part of what makes you, you.
