Oscar Night: TCSH Prom Night 2010
On 27 November, TCSH held its largest ever TCSH Prom Night, also known as Oscar Night, in accordance to its Oscar Theme. Over 400 students and staff members attended this event held at Hilton’s swanky DoubleTree.
Upon their arrival, attendees were certainly impressed by the ballroom which was decadently decorated to match the glamorous Hollywood-esque theme. But what definitely was the focal point of the event was the giant statue of Oscar which dominated the centre of the stage. Attendees were dressed to the nines and totally looked the part of Hollywood celebrities attending the Academy Awards.
The night kicked off with speeches by Mr.Ananda, Principal of TCSH and Leong Jian Wei, President of the TCSH Student Council and head of the Prom Committee. This was followed by the various performances. Amongst them was a magic show by fellow TCSH SAM student, Ross Stephenson. His unique way of combining magic with comedy was truly entertaining to say the least, and had the audience captivated throughout his segment.
Another performance was by Isabelle and her dance crew who did an amazing hip hop and street dance inspired performance that had the audience applauding and cheering for them. There was also a spirited dance number performed by the Korean Dance Group from the TCSH Han Guk Club, who also happened to be the winners of Taylor’s Got Talent. It wasn’t just TCSH students who performed on stage as there was also a group vocal performance by the band, Just Wearing Knickers, consisting of students from HELP University College who got the house rocking with their terrific performance. There were some truly talented performers on stage that night.
After the performances, awards were given out to outstanding students and clubs in numerous categories. Amongst them were for Best Dressed Male and Female, Outstanding Club, Event of The Year and the TCSH Recognition Award, which went to Quintin, Ashley, the D.O.T. Club, Jog For Hope II and our very own TCSH Editorial Board respectively. Our dedicated TCSH staff was not excluded from the awards ceremony as there were awards given out for Teacher Advisor of The Year (Ms Koh Jee Yin for D.O.T. Club), Most Congenial Staff (Ms Dachaini Karuppiah), Best Dressed Male (Mr Jonathan Jack Ling) and Best Dressed Female (Ms Chuah Li-Sze).
The night ended with the crowning of the TCSH Prom King and Prom Queen ( Ervin Cheah and Hew Kah Mun, respectively), followed by the King and Queen’s first dance together. Soon, the dance floor was filled with couples slow dancing to the romantic music played by the band. After a few songs, it was time for the party to really get started as a fast dance number started playing and all the attendees crammed themselves on to the dance floor for some serious dancing. Overall, it was a very enjoyable Prom Night and most of the attendees seemed satisfied with the entire event. Congratulations to the current Prom Committee on a job well done!
