Hot Air Balloon Fiesta Video Shooting

29th March 2014.

It looked as if the day could not get any better, as members of Shooting Stars (TCSH Filming Club) gathered at the college’s front door at 6.30am. Despite being up with the lark, there was not a tinge of weariness on the cheery faces of the members. After a month’s work, this was what we had been preparing for – the production of our very own short film.

The whole film was about friendship and love. Basically, it was about how a guy and a girl shared a very close relationship during their high school days when everything was simpler. Things changed in college, the boy was boycotted by his classmates and the girl fell for another guy, but in some twisted ways, the girl ended up crying in the boy’s arms with the fear of losing him forever. I wouldn’t be a spoiler, so I might as well just end here.

Even more tragic than Romeo and Juliet?
It was around 7.30am when we reached the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta (Putrajaya). The director and her personal assistant started briefing everyone on the scenes and gave us a quick recap of the story line while everyone munched on their breakfast.

The main characters in the short film started putting on makeup while the director briefed the rest of the cast members. The others started unpacking gears and setting up props. Soon, we were the center of attention as the director started the ball rolling by yelling “Action!” and “Cut!” The Hot Air Balloon Free flying Show commenced after a short while. We took a quick break and stared in awe at the sky, suddenly embellished with hot air balloons of different colours and shapes.

Pat on powder
Throughout the whole filming process, we tried our very best to be professionals. However, it was quite an impossible task as we burst into laughter whenever there’s a retake for a scene.

The scenes at Putrajaya were completed within a short period of time due to the cooperation and effort made by all members. We took a quick lunch and returned to college at around 3.30pm. However, our work was far from done.

Spot the religious undertones
The college was eerily quiet during the holidays. Here’s a perfect time to shoot without causing any disturbances! We replicated scenes during Pie Day, which was one of our inter-college events during March, and filmed scenes of the main characters’ college life. We even managed to throw one of our actresses a birthday surprise party in the midst of filming!
It was indeed a special and memorable day for all of us.

A day to share our similar passions towards filming.
A day to celebrate someone’s birthday.
A day to bid goodbye to one of our friends who was leaving TCSH.
A day filled with sheer fun and happiness.
A day for us and only us -- our day.

Juxtaposition of realms beneath the shield of two lenses -- film and reality
Chances like filming with your friends don’t come by very often. This was truly a wonderful and unforgettable experience that I will surely reminisce in the future, definitely one of my best moments in college. Cheers to the organizing committee of TCSH Filming Club for the trip!
