The Science of Probiotic - Yakult Talk

On the 30th of July, Taylor's College Sri Hartamas welcomed a group of presenters form Yakult Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. All the bio-science classes' students got the chance to attend a talk to learn about the benefits that probiotic bring.

Personally, I thought that the talk was very educating and mind-blowing, and I learnt a lot form the talk. The speech was given by an employer of Yakult, and she managed to make an otherwise bland talk very interesting.

From the talk, I understood the importance of our bodies' defense system, especially our intestines. I was very surprised to learn that our intestine are actually older than our actual age. We should be grateful to our bodies and take good care of them. Meanwhile, I have also learnt a lot about constipation. The lecturer told us that if a patient who faces long term constipation does not take care of his or her body, it will cause them cancer or some other form of serious illness.

Other than that, I found out that Yakult is not a drink for young children only. In my opinion, Yakult was some kiddy food that adults doesn't require. Quite on the contrary, I discovered that we needed them more than our younger siblings. Since our bodies are older, we need more vitamins and supplements to replace our aged and broken tissues, and Yakult contains the bacteria to help us do just that. As always, I salute Japanese companies as they always produce new and inventive products that are beneficial to our health.

Overall, I liked this talk a lot and hope that we will similar talks in the future, so that we can learn from outside the textbooks. I learnt many new biological names and realized my knowledge is still limited. I feel very grateful to Yakult for giving us a remarkable talk which changed my view on bacteria and probiotics.
