A-Level Above the Rest: 2010 CAL Awards Ceremony

On the morning of the 21st of August 2010, Taylor’s paid tribute to its students from the 2009 intakes who received notable results of 3As and greater in the Cambridge Advanced Levels Examinations. The awards ceremony that took place at Taylor’s Main Campus in Subang Jaya saw a huge turnout as family members and friends came to celebrate the 282 exceptional students (59 from TCSH and 223 from TCSJ) who received excellent grades in the examination.

Witnessing the day’s proceedings from the emcee platform, it was amusing to see the looks of pride and accomplishment on the faces of proud parents who showed up to support and cheer on their children as they passed yet another milestone in their young adult lives.

To kick things off, Mr Anandakumaresh, Acting Principal of the CAL Programme at Taylors College Subang Jaya and Principal of Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas announced the general results of the intake. With a pass rate of 99.7%, an increment from the previous year’s 99.6%, Taylor’s has yet again proven itself to be a hub for cultivating active young minds.

Later, Mr Lim Tou Boon, President of the Taylor’s College described the results are nothing short of “awesome” as he wished the top scorers the best of luck in all their future endeavours. In his inspiring speech, Mr Lim reiterated that failure is part of success and highlighted the accomplishments of a student he holds to great esteem, Chuah Kee Aik, who managed to strike a balance between planning the Jog For Hope (a major Taylor’s event that raised over RM20,000 for charity) and his studies.

But the theme of the event didn’t just echo the academic successes of Taylorians but rather reinstated their accomplishments as holistic, multi-talented individuals. As such, the President’s Award was awarded to 3 unique individuals who were singled out for their active involvement in ECA in addition to obtaining phenomenal results. Wong Choon Lim, Lim Tse Wei and Chuah En Quan were highlighted for going the extra mile and proving that booksmarts, leadership and sportmanship are not mutually exclusive traits.

Later, award recipients proceeded on stage in turn to receive their award plaques from Mr Lim, Mr Ananda and Mr Ng Kim Huat, CIE representative in Malaysia. As the event wrapped up at a little past noon, the crowd dispersed with a sense of accomplishment; Taylor’s with the amazing record-breaking results, parents with familial pride and award recipients with a positive outlook on the challenges to come.
