On 6 and 7 May, Mail Boxes Etc. (MBE) set up a booth in campus to promote their services and their outlet in Plaza Damas. MBE is the world's largest retail business, communication and postal network. Basically, what they offer are services like photocopying, printing, shipping and office supplies. Besides that, they also offer Post Office Box rentals and faxing services.
Students would be interested to note that binding and laminating services are also available. With an outlet in Plaza Damas, it is really easy for TCSH students to use their services or even pick up any stationery they need.
The booth set up was quite big, with a full backdrop and various banners showing the various courier companies that are associated with MBE. As students walked up to find out what the company had to offer, helpful attendants began explaining what exactly MBE does. There were various brochures with relevant information available and there were even some shipping envelopes and boxes shown to students. The boxes are all standard size when shipping goods.
A friend enquired about the process and costs involved in sending goods to his sister all the way in Russia. The attendants didn't miss a beat and explained that firstly, when shipping goods, the charges are based on weight and size. Also, prices amongst courier services change almost daily due to fuel surcharges. All someone has to do is take whatever they want to ship to an MBE outlet and the workers there will be prepared to pack, register and ship it. There is also the issue of what exactly is being shipped. Generally, flammable or edible goods are restricted because of health regulations. On top of that, the rates charged by MBE for shipping are exactly the same as regular shipping dealers.
