Time and Task Management Workshop
On February 3rd, Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas had the privilege of having Ms Logesh present the Time and Task Management workshop. For the past seven years, Ms. Logesh has been lecturing Specialist Math for the SAM programme and as such she fully understands the difficulties faced by students of this programme.
We learnt that one of the biggest challenges of studying in SAM is ‘Time’ and if we do not overcome this challenge, we the students will face the dreaded emotion, stress. Hence, the purpose of this workshop is to ensure that our time studying in Taylor’s College will be a bearable and stress free one. Learning about time management will not only help us now, but in future as well, as the saying goes “Time Is Precious”.
During the workshop, the students were shown an example of how a previous student from Taylor’s filled up his planner with not only his school schedules but his personal ones, such as the parties and events that he was going to attend and much more. Though we are given ample time and warning before a deadline, we need to put our planners to good use to help us meet it. In fact, we need to beat the deadline so that we will have a time ‘buffer’ for unforeseen circumstances like the printer running out of ink or the computer breaking down.
An ESL component called Investigative Study was given to us and we had to create our own schedule of how much time we might take to choose a topic, developing it and narrow it down to write a focus question. We could do this in both digital and manual form according to our preference.
Ms. Logesh also got us to plan backwards from the date for our Maths Studies Common Test 1 and Directed Investigation 1. She made us allocate time to do practice exercises in the Maths Studies Key Ideas workbook and as the test dates draw closer we were told to allocate time to do at least 2 past year papers. Exams are given not only to test our knowledge but our speed and accuracy as well. This study method will help ensure this.
It is assumed that students at college level already know how to manage their time well from high school, but sadly that’s a misconception for many. Though students may dread going to these workshops, it takes a little time to learn something that will help each and every one of us for the rest of our lives.
Believe To Achieve.
