Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas’ Campus Day 13/06/09
“Good morning ma’am, how may I assist you?” Walking through the glass doors, the first visitor to the Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas’ Campus Day was greeted by our very own Mr. Rahul Ramachandran, Assistant Manager of the Student Affairs Department. Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas’ Campus Day had officially begun.
At about ten-thirty in the morning on the 13th of June, many parents and prospective students arrived at the campus. The education counsellors, administrative staff and student ambassadors present were ready to assist the parents and students.
At about ten-thirty in the morning on the 13th of June, many parents and prospective students arrived at the campus. The education counsellors, administrative staff and student ambassadors present were ready to assist the parents and students.
A talk entitled “Options After SPM” was given by Mr. Anandakumaresh Ratnasingam, the Campus Director. Interested parents with children who had yet to decide on which pre-university course to enrol in filled the Beta Theatre and were all ears as Mr. Anandakumaresh gave an overview of the South Australian Matriculation Programme, the Cambridge A-Levels Programme and the new International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. He also talked about future degrees students could pursue after pre-university.
Career tests were also provided by Ms. Irene, the new student counsellor of Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas. Three types of tests were provided; the computer-based test, the pen-and-paper test, and the personality test. Most students took interest in the career tests because they are yet to decide on the type of career they would pursue in the future. Some visitors were taken on campus tours, while some chose to participate in the career tests, and others requested to consult the education counsellors.
Needless to say, many parents came for Campus Day. Some were serious-faced, some were eager-faced, some were friendly-faced and others were just genuinely interested in gathering information about the campus. It was pleasant to see that many parents were impressed by our well-equipped, beautifully furnished and modern campus. Students of different races, ranging from age 16 to 18 came with their parents, too. Later in the afternoon, the event was graced by a surprise visit from none other than Dato’ Loy Teik Ngan himself.
As I was standing at the reception area, a parent approached me and asked me a question that I found amusing. The conversation went this way: “This campus has really strong air conditioning. It is freezing cold. Is it always this way?” he asked. I replied that it was.
He then popped another question, “So where does the fresh oxygen come from?” I said we had good ventilation in the campus, to which he then replied, “I don’t think there is enough fresh air around.”
Hmm… Towards the end of the day, the number of visitors that came lessened. Campus Day finally came to a successful end at about five p.m. It was an informative day indeed!
