Eclipse

“Where's the party? Where's the party? Show me the way, show me the way!” Familiar? These were the lyrics sung by Vitamin C in their song, “Where’s The Party”. Well, any student of Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas could have answered the question above, if it was posed to them on the 22nd of January, 2009!That’s right.

Eclipse, the Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas’ Orientation party, was held on the 22nd of January, 2009. Eclipses are stunning and special. Thus, it was apt for the Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas’ Orientation Party to be named Eclipse.

The auspicious event took place in conjunction with the Student Council Election on the 22nd of January, 2009. At exactly 3p.m., the doors of the Alpha Theater opened and the long awaited voting session began. Walking into the hangout area of Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas, I did a double take. Gone were the usual black and red lounge seats. My eyes were bombarded by the sight of yellow, orange and black helium-filled balloons that filled up the entire hangout area on the ground floor of Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas. Rotating spot lights were lined up at the sides. The DJ had set up all his paraphernalia. First thing that came to my mind? Woo hoo! Partayy!

The party kicked off at 5p.m. with a crowd of hot-blooded students cheering as John and Danial, the funky emcees of the night, took the stage. The crowd cheered even more as the organizing committee of the event stepped into the spotlight. Ezmir Rizwan, the outgoing president of the student council officiated the event. The performances then started off with an in house performance by Pamela Choo, Marcia Lee and Ayesha Sofia, followed by a performance by Lee Sze Ying, who entertained the crowd with two songs. When there is a party, there is always food! And in this case, it was food, glorious food! Fortunately, TGI Friday’s had generously sponsored food for the event. The queue for food in Beta Theater spilled out to the door, proving how delicious the food was.

One of the highlights of the night was the launching of The Beacon by the editorial board. Anitha Yogaraj, the editor-in-chief, officiated the launching of The Beacon and this elicited a huge round of applause from the crowd.Next, students were sent into peals of laughter, as Lucas and Faiz entertained the crowd with a duo sketch on college survival skills. The wacky sketch was filled with humour while it also equipped students with college survival skills. Having had a solo singing performance in the earlier part of the night, the crowd was further entertained by a duet singing performance by Tim & Sarah.

Soon afterward, the DJ promptly turned up the music as students filled onto the dance floor. Students showed off dance moves and danced the night away. It was indeed a great end to a great evening and a great start to a great year ahead! Rock on Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas!
