ECA Drive - July

On the 17th of July, the Extra Curricular Activities Drive (ECA Drive) was held for students from the new intake who had just joined TCSH. The drive served to highlight the numerous clubs and societies in college for the new students to learn more about and join in order to enhance their college experience and make them well-rounded individuals. On that day, classes were accelerated to make way for the event.

The Event
By 2.30 pm, the 2nd floor of college had been transformed into a buzzing, noisy maze of booths manned by the clubs’ chosen representatives. Pamphlets were passed around, and so were encouraging words from the representatives to woo the new students to join their clubs. It was evident that all clubs and societies were more than happy to welcome the new intake.

Was ever crowd in this humour woo'd?
The ECA drive kick started with the official release of the Happy Parody video, based on the viral Happy song that was danced to by our college mates. It set the mood for the many performances that followed. The Yoga Club members struck incredibly complicated yoga poses on the stage to make a pitch for their club; this was followed by an attempt to promote the Fitness Club by hunky looking boys in gym apparel who performed fitness routines. The martial arts club – glamorously named Storm 8 - displayed their strength by crushing bricks on the stage with their bare hands and demonstrating a fight scene. The members from both the Music Club and the Badminton Club entertained the crowd with songs. Students wandered around the booths of the clubs and societies they were interested to join or stood among the crowd to watch the array of performances.

Project Adopt, a group of students who teach orphans once a week, had pictures of children decorating their booth. Shooting Stars, TCSH’s Film Club, had a film themed booth and a papier machê video camera that was paraded around by one of their members. The Frisbee Club’s booth was eye-catching with an assortment of helium balloons and posters. “The best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” was the Food Club’s Policy as they served nachos, pancakes, and more as a means to attract prospective members. They were also well prepared with a food-themed giant frame to be used as a prop in photos and a well-decorated booth. Unsurprisingly, it was the Food Club who won the Best Booth Award offered by the ECA council.

Everybody wore ties as “Ties” was the theme for this ECA drive. It was amusing to see how creatively students wore their ties. Some wore it the traditional way while others explored alternative ways, such as tying it on their head to form a bandanna.

"Ties" ambassador
All in all, it was a very successful event. Students were given the chance to sign up for their favourite sports, games and activities. To all students from the new intake, thank you for taking part in the ECA drive - we hope you are able to nurture your passions and interests fully through the numerous clubs and societies at TCSH for the rest of your time here!

Nurture the seed of passion with us!
