Orientation Party ( March/April Intakes)

With a twinkling of an eye, the orientation party for March and April intakes commenced on the 24th of April 2014. I can vividly remember the orientation party for this year’s January intake; the music, the fun, the roaring laughter, the crowd, and the subsequent sore throat. Being able to chit chat with neighboring strangers as if you had known each other for a long time was such a delightful experience and definitely one of those moments you would never forget.

At approximately 4.15pm, first floor’s hangout area was quickly cleared and set up for the arrival of the new intake. It wasn’t for long when the area was stuffed, not only with new faces, but also with the council members and club representatives. Everyone was given stickers to write their names on, which aid in expediting the process of introduction.

Not too long after, our student council president (Joey Wong) started off with an ice breaker—the very traditional: First impression game! This was the game where everyone had to walk around to meet and greet other students and wrote their first impression of them on a piece of paper taped behind their backs. When the game ended, everyone was eager to read off other people’s first impression on them, some shared the hilarious comments they received, triggering another round of laughter.

Next, the club representatives were called upon to gather up front to introduce their clubs. Everyone tried their best to buy in and convince the new students at best by cracking jokes which brought the house down. The upcoming break time, was when all the club representatives emptied the tank to get new students with mutual interests to join their clubs. The new students seemed to be overwhelmed while the club representatives listed out fervently the benefits of joining. Do you feel the love and passion of the TCSH community?

A while later, the floor was quickly evacuated as we brought a performance initiated by the dance club, where girls rock the dance floor to the remix of Yonce(Beyonce) and We Run the Night(Havana Brown). Thim from Student Council also conducted a magic show and silenced the crowd as he swallowed his sword. Subsequently, the music club created a harmonious ambience with two songs: Somewhere over the rainbow and L-O-V-E. The crowd swayed and clapped to the rhythm. Now that’s what I call music to my ears.

The next event was the newspaper game, where students came in pairs and tried hard not to fall off the small piece of newspaper. The crowds cheered on when the last few pairs maintained their balance with one foot only while the other clung on to their partners as tight as possible! Being the one in the audience, I would say that it was equally enjoyable as a spectator. HAHA!

The last game, AKA the last event of the day, was the blanket game. The crowd was split into two groups, and was given time to introduce themselves to each other. We were then partitioned by a blanket held by two council members. When one person from each group was seated before the blanket, the blanket will be dropped and whoever managed to name the person before them the fastest wins! The crowd burst into laughter when there were awkward moments where both the people tried so hard to mouth the opposition’s name with a mixture of confusion and agitation written all over their faces.

It was a fun-filled day which ended roughly around 6.45pm. Three cheers to the organizing committee, especially the Student Council for giving us an enjoyable time! And to all the new students of the April intake, enjoy your college life here at TCSH!
