(Mini) US Universities Fair
Had you braved the cold and entered the Alpha Theatre on Thursday afternoon (15th of May), you’d have undoubtedly run into the Mini US Universities Fair. This mini fair was set up with booths from six universities, including Colorado State and the famed Oregon State Universities, the fair was both interesting and informative. The representatives were all incredibly eager to describe the weather in these far flung locales, the size of the dormitories - the representative from Drew University specifically spoke about dorm life for at least five minutes - and of course, the tough entrance criteria, which they had broken down to the final degree for us. They had information about nearly every single course, from Creative Writing, to the best pathway into Medicine.
Most of the discussions seemed to concentrate on the high quality of university life that US universities are renowned for. For example, the representative from Oregon State University emphasized on how the four-person dormitory was the ideal place to socialize, even if you cram for exams. Most of the universities were more focused on liberal arts, and in the words of the Drew University representative, "It's possible to go in [the course of choice doing science], and come out doing business." The idea of such freedom seemed to appeal to most students, as many were seen excitedly copying down application dates and contact numbers.
“They’re so enthusiastic,” an A-Levels student was spotted saying; and enthusiasm truly encompassed the representatives, who gladly plied the students with glossy brochures and ballpoint pens. Their fervor in answering every question that the students asked was impressive as well. This Mini Fair, with its informative crew and in-depth answers, was truly a didactic experience for those of us who wished to study in the US.
