Ms D's Farewell Party
The bittersweet evening began as students and teachers gathered at the open area opposite the teacher’s staffroom on Level 1. After everyone had assembled, Ms. Dachaini was invited to the area and we waited with bated breath for the event to begin. Members of the Student Council then officially launched the event at 5 pm with a video montage of fellow TCSH students giving short messages to her. Many students were extremely sad to see her leave and it was touching to see the amount of people Ms. Dachaini had left an imprint upon.
After the video montage, Sandhiya Karunagaran (Vice President of Student Council) performed a creative and beautiful traditional Indian dance. Traditional dances are not performed very often and it was lovely to witness such expression from a different culture.
Shortly after that, winners of “Who’s Got Talent 2013”, Carine and Aidiel sang a wonderful rendition of ‘Royals’ by Lorde along with an Ed Sheeran mash-up.
Next, Mark Ng (Student Council President of 2013) gave a short speech to commemorate the memorable time Ms. Dachaini and the Student Council had spent working together.
At about 5.30 pm, Fern and Natalie performed a sweet song called ‘Hate To See Your Heartbreak’ and almost everyone, not just Ms. Dachaini, teared up a little during the performance.
The same goes for the next performance of Adele’s ‘Make You Feel My Love’ by three students from the IB Program. There was literally pin drop silence, because everyone was so intent on listening to their splendid performance.
Finally, Ms. Dachaini herself gave an impromptu speech. It was very moving because she was clearly upset about leaving TCSH, especially about leaving the students who meant so much to her. However, she put on a brave face and gave a spirited parting speech. Just after that, a cake was brought out for her - baked by our very own Student Council President, Joey Wong! Best brownies ever, yum!
At 6 p.m Joey and Eleasha performed ‘Say Something’ by A Great Big World. It was another really wonderful performance.
Not long after that, the stage was open to students to say a few parting words to Ms. Dachaini herself. During the closing ceremony, the Student Councils of 2013 and 2014 as well as the Editorial Board presented their gifts to Ms. Dachaini, which she graciously accepted. Not long after that, the makeshift stage was transformed into a dance floor and everyone took to it to commemorate the night. Even some of the more serious Council members could be seen swaying to the beat!
At this point, the event had officially ended - but the real implication of that fact finally started to settle in. We will be sad to bid her farewell. However, mingled with the sadness of Ms. Dachaini’s departure was a stronger feeling of gratitude - of hope and happiness for the path ahead for one of TCSH’s dearest and most inspirational teachers. It is your spirit that has made such an impact on everyone here, Ms. Dachaini. Hence, from all the past and present students and staff of TCSH, we say: Thank you, and keep dancing through life!
