Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse?

The Twilight Saga is probably one of the most talked-about movie sequels after the Harry Potter series, for both the good reasons and the bad. Before the movie was produced, most people anticipated its release but now it seems that even more people are waiting for this ever-so-famous saga to finally come to an end... Why so?

Truth be told, I have never expected much from movies which are based on books because they are usually disappointing when you compare them to the original stories from the books. However, since I did not read Twilight, I decided to give the movie a shot. I was also particularly curious to see what Edward was like since almost every girl I knew was falling for the fictional character created by Stephanie Meyer. How special was he that he so quickly became the ideal boyfriend in every girl's mind?

I didn't exactly know what to expect from Twilight. Unlike some girls who thought that Robert Pattinson was not good (looking) enough to fit the shoes of their imaginary dream guy, I actually thought there was nothing wrong with him being Edward Cullen. Besides, I adored him when he was Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire back in 2005, so why not give him a chance for a bigger role this time?

For someone who didn't read the first book, I actually enjoyed the movie (unlike most of my friends who did read the book). I genuinely thought that the idea that vampires sparkle isn't as weird as most people think. It isn't wrong for Meyer to create an entirely different image of vampires than that already fixed in our minds by myth and/or older movies. It's called being creative, after all. I must admit that both look-wise and character-wise, the movie portrayed Edward as charming and Jacob as just...... annoying. The leading casts' acting, (including Kristin Stewart's who I thought was a good actress judging by her previous roles), was a different story altogether. Much to my dismay, most of the scenes were just so awkward. So stiff. So emotionless. Anyway, if you are able to ignore their horrible acting, I'd say that the movie was a nice, enjoyable one.

I decided to read New Moon before the movie came out. It was sold out everywhere and so my friend willingly lent hers for me to read. I regretted reading it. The movie also failed to do any justice to the already atrocious plot; in fact it probably made everything worse. First of all, I could not help but yawn at certain parts as the scenes were draggy. Second of all, I personally believe that the portrayal of Bella was downright degrading to women in general. But on the plus side, there's a newly-transformed Jacob Black and a whole pack of tanned skin, muscular, and shirtless werewolves to feast your eyes on. Fare thee well Edward, charming boy no more! It’s no wonder why most boys hate this movie, heh? Well for what it's worth, Volturi's portrayal was kinda cool. Ironically, young Dakota Fanning could act way better than most of the leading cast. Overall, my only thought after leaving the cinema was: I want my RM10 back.

As people say, with low expectations, you'll get less disappointment. I suppose that is the perfect way to describe how I felt about the latest movie, Eclipse. I had given up reading the book after being amazed at how idiotic Bella could be, hence, I was back to square one: I didn't know what to expect for this movie. But, I prayed it wouldn't be half as bad as New Moon was. Thankfully, my prayers came true. Eclipse was undeniably better in the sense that it had more action and less romantic-but-extremely-awkward scenes. I also liked how Jasper was given a bigger role in this movie compared to the previous two movies. The Cullens are unique and interesting characters, give them a chance to shine too! It puzzles me why Edward Cullen hasn’t recovered from his suicidal-stage in New Moon? He has just lost his charm somehow. Other than that, I personally prefer Rachel Lefevre acting as Victoria rather than Bryce Dallas’ Howard. Howard somehow lacks that mysterious, revengeful look that Lefevre has.

I'm now all hyped up and excited for the final installation, Breaking Dawn. But I can't quite figure out if I'm really looking forward to the sequel or simply the ending of the whole saga.
