I wanna Moo Cow!!

Frozen yoghurt is a recent introduction to the Malaysian palate, with outlets such as TuttiFrutti introducing a variety of delicious, refreshing, and (arguably!) low-calorie frozen delights to our stomachs and to our easily-emptied wallets.

The frozen yogurt phenomenon is a very new trend, one that has essentially been brought to the front door of Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas with the establishment of Hartamas Shopping Centre’s very first Moo Cow outlet during January 2011.Barely four months old from the date this article was written, this simple establishment has, thus far, captivated the hearts, minds, and wallets of the Taylor’s community.

Taylor’s students can often be seen choosing from the unusual flavors and wide array of toppings offered by the outlet on the way back from lunch, as well as after particularly grueling study sessions(It is, after all, exam season!). At the relatively affordable price of RM 9.90 per cup, Moo Cow hasus lusting for more and more of the delicious, frozen goodness that made us fall in love with it.

This writer had the fortune of interviewing Mr. Clifford Too, the genius behind the tangy frozen delight that is Moo Cow, whogave an interesting insight to the business aspect of things.

Moo Cow, according to Mr. Clifford, was initially a joint business venture between himself and a friend, though it eventually turned into a solo venture due to extremely interesting reasons that cannot be disclosed here. He formed his business using the‘Blue Ocean Strategy’, through which an entirely new market was formed, or so he says, through innovation and creativity.

Well, frozen yoghurt, otherwise known as froyo, is froyo. “How much of a new market can you get?”, this writer asked herself. We did a survey in Taylor’s College Sri Hartamas on froyo, and many students have voiced their opinions; In a battle of taste, Moo Cow would beat TuttiFrutti hands down. Clearly, Moo Cow must be doing something differently… And so we asked Mr. Clifford Too; what is different about Moo Cow’s product compared to the other brands of froyo sold by other establishments?

We asked Mr. Too about his secret, and his answer was simple; Moo cow uses fresh ingredients; You won’t find any powdered mixes anywhere near the store. The recipe is Mr. Clifford’s very own creation, and, for all you health food and diet junkies out there, it features very little sugar, and very much fresh yoghurt, so you can happily enjoy your Moo Cow without fear of getting fat!

While it is no Baskin Robbins, Moo Cow features one original flavor and two seasonal flavors which change every month, keepingcustomers (being most of you novelty-seekers who are currently reading this article) at the edge of their seats with their spoons at the ready. Currently, Moo Cow is offering root beer and wheatgrass flavored froyo, after its past offerings of orange, mango, and even gula Melaka flavored yoghurt, each of which do not fail to tantalize and delight the taste buds. What is Mr. Too’s next superb, tantalizing creation? Only time will tell.

Along with your healthy cup of interestingly flavoredfrozen yogurt, you can add a topping of your choice at Moo Cow; Raspberry jam? You got it. Oreos? Why not? Oatmeal? I have no idea why you would want that, but sure. You could even have an additional topping for a small amount of RM1.

On his choice of name for the establishment, Mr. Too remarked that it sounded catchy at the time, though more than a few of his acquaintances mentioned that it sounded lame. However, because Mr. Too is awesome, and because Moo Cow is so awesome as well, this does not stop the business from turning over extremely large amounts of money every month.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Clifford Too mentioned that Moo Cow was looking to open new Moo Cow outlets in popular shopping malls such as One Utama and Mid Valley Megamall… So who knows? The next time you’re up and about, keep an eye out. You might have the fortune of eating one of his creations. Whether it’s the unique selling point or the array of flavors, Moo Cow is definitely here to stay. Move out of the way, TuttiFrutti, you’re no longer alone in the market!
