TCSH's New College Counsellor
Counsellors. Ever wonder what they are for? Just counselling? No. In fact, counsellors seem to be the ones whom people approach for one simple reason - a counsellor listens. Many people might perceive a counsellor to be someone who is serious, analytical and cautious.
This a myth that is to be dispelled. Because when I went to interview Taylor's College Sri Hartamas' new student counsellor, namely Ms. Ai Rene, what I discovered was exactly the opposite.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
Before this, I was actually in the States - Seattle, to be exact. I was working there as a counsellor. I counselled a lot of people and worked with diverse populations, mainly youth who were affected socially, emotionally and behaviorally. I graduated in 2007 from a university in Minnesota in Psychology. On a more personal note, family and friends are very important to me.
What do you think of this new Taylor's College campus?
It is really nice. The escalators were what I saw first. Last time in university there was no such thing! This campus has very advanced facilities and is interesting. For me, now there is a new counselling centre here and it is challenging to start from scratch but I get to learn a lot.
What are your plans for the future?
I want to do anything and everything.
What are your hobbies?
Singing and music, which includes playing the organ - this is why I'm the advisor for the Music Club. I love shopping too and sitting by the beach while doing nothing.
What do you like most about your job?
Interacting with people and helping them find a solution. It makes me feel good when I help someone. I like it when people feel supported and cared for. In a way it makes me feel as if I accomplished something.

So there you go. A little insight into the mind of our new counsellor, Ms. Ai Rene, the latest addition to our Taylor's College Sri Hartamas staff.
